William Tesha’s story

Taking a Closer Look

Based at the Makundusi Logistics Campus, William Tesha plays a vital role in the Clinic as Laboratory Technician, ensuring the health and well-being of both staff and guests. From the bustling city of Mwanza to the remote wilderness, William’s journey over the past ten years has been marked by dedication, expertise, and a commitment to excellence.

William’s story with Grumeti began a decade ago when he joined the company as a Laboratory Technician. His role is crucial in the remote setting of the concession area, where access to medical facilities is limited. His responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, analysing specimens, and interpreting findings to assist clinicians in diagnosing and treating ailments. His work spans parasitology, hematology, serology, and microbiology, bridging the gap between patients’ symptoms and effective treatment.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, William and his team faced unprecedented challenges. The intricacies of specimen collection, packaging, and sending samples for further investigation tested their skills and resilience. This experience honed their readiness to handle any future challenges, ensuring they could respond swiftly and effectively to any health crisis.

Beyond the confines of the clinic, William often ventures into the field, attending to guests staying at any of the Grumeti lodges. Together with a Paramedic, he travels in a fully equipped bush Land Rover ambulance, to provide critical medical assistance wherever it’s needed. His expertise and quick response have been instrumental in maintaining the health and safety of guests, adding a strong sense of comfort and security to their wilderness experience.

William’s love for his job is evident in his dedication to continuous learning and teamwork. He values the cooperation from his colleagues, the training opportunities that enhance his skills, and the satisfaction of playing a key role in diagnosing patients’ ailments.

Looking to the future, William dreams of furthering his education to better serve the Grumeti staff and the company. He envisions expanding the laboratory’s capabilities to conduct more specialised tests, providing an even more comprehensive healthcare service.

“Working at Grumeti Reserves is more than just a job, it’s a way of life. I’ve found not just a career but a home, a place where passion meets purpose everyday.”
