In the pristine landscape of Tanzania’s Serengeti Western Corridor, the Singita Community Culinary School stands as a beacon of aspiration and excellence.
Since its inception in 2015, this innovative institution has been transforming lives and redefining the culinary landscape of Grumeti Reserves. With a remarkable track record of producing over 50 chefs, 90% of whom have successfully carved out careers in the culinary field, the school is a testament to the power of education and opportunity.
The school was born from a vision to uplift local communities and provide young Tanzanians with the skills and opportunities to thrive in the hospitality industry.

Spearheaded by the Singita Management Company, together with the Grumeti Reserves team, the school set out to nurture talent, instill confidence, and create pathways to success for aspiring chefs from the surrounding areas.
The rigorous training programme, designed to equip students with both foundational and advanced culinary skills, has consistently produced outstanding chefs. These graduates have gone on to lead kitchens, create innovative dishes, and contribute to the culinary success of Grumeti Reserves’ luxury lodges and camps.
One such success story is that of Gomicy Meyeuda, who joined the school in 2016 from Kyandege village in Bunda. Gomicy’s passion for cooking and commitment saw her rise to the position of Demi Chef de Partie at one of Singita Grumeti’s prestigious lodges.

Her journey is a shining example of how the school has not only equipped students with technical skills but also instilled in them the confidence and leadership qualities needed to excel in high-pressure environments. She was recently awarded the Singita Junior Chef of the Year, an award which considers chefs across the brand’s 16 lodges and camps in four countries within Africa.
Only eight students are chosen, making it a highly competitive and sought-after opportunity. These young individuals, selected for their passion and potential, embark on a transformative journey that shapes their futures.

Mangarai Charles, who joined in 2018 from Nata Village, has had great success in becoming the newest Senior Chef de Partie at Singita Sasakwa.
He recalls the day he was accepted into the programme. “It was a dream come true,” he says. “The training I received has changed my life. I’ve learned so much, not just about cooking, but about leadership and teamwork. I’m proud to be part of the Singita family.”
Graduates often return to their villages, sharing their knowledge and inspiring others to pursue their dreams. The SCCS has become a symbol of hope and a catalyst for change, demonstrating the profound impact that education and opportunity can have on individuals and communities.

This backing of the school’s qualifications has opened new doors for graduates, enabling them to seek opportunities and employment on a global scale. This endorsement is a significant milestone, reflecting the high standards and international recognition the school has achieved.
